2012 Olympics: Road Closures Overview
Plan your traffic and travel for the London 2012 Olympics - with millions of extra people coming to London for the Games, the capital's roads will face additional pressure.
There will be a number of road closures in place to ensure the smooth running of the Games and significant disruption is expected.

The Most Affected Areas
- The roads in red above will be the most affected, as competitors and officials get to their venues.
- Central London around Horseguards Parade will be severely affected, as the Olympic Beach Volleyball will be taking place. Constitution Hill, Birdcage Walk and Great George Street will all be closed to traffic.
- General traffic will not be allowed to travel westbound (County Hall to Westminster) over Westminster Bridge.
- Victoria Embankment and Park Lane will be Games Lanes, with a lane closed off both ways from Lambeth Palace Road to Tower Hill.
- In Piccadilly, Hamilton Place, Hertford Street, Stanhope Row and Market Mews will be closed throughout the Games.
- In West London, the A40 Western Avenue will contain a Games Lane, which will be closed to non-Games traffic from 6am-11pm, both directions from Hangar Lane into Central London.
- Great Central Way, South Way and First Way will have Olympic Lanes during days when there are events at Wembley, closed to non-Games traffic from 7am-midnight.
- The A4 Great West Road, Cedars Road, Ellesmere Road, Hogarth Lane, Brompton Road, Thurloe Place, Cromwell Road will contain Games Lanes both ways the from Chiswick flyover all the way to central London.
- Near the Olympic Park, Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach, East Cross Route, A106 Eastway will have a Games Lane, meaning it is closed to general traffic from 6am-midnight.
- The A12 also contains a Games Lane from the Blackwall Tunnel To Leyton High Road.
- A lane will be closed on the A12 Temple Mills Road approaching the Olympic Park.
- Roads around the Olympic Park will obviously be extremely busy.
- A lane of the A3 has been allocated as a Games Lane, meaning it is closed to general traffic, from Mere Close to Tibbet's Corner.
