£30 Billion Underground Ring Road Planned
Monday 12th May 2014
Boris Johnson has told LBC London's growth has led to plans to develop an underground ring road.
The 22 mile Inner Orbital Tunnel would link key routes across north, south, east and west of the capital. It would also create two new crossings beneath the Thames.
The £30 billion pound project would remove thousands of cars from the roads above.
"We've got to look at it, it's a fantastic scheme. Obviously it's something that TfL have been developing," the Mayor of London commented.
"London is growing, we need to find ways of getting people around the city but in an environmentally friendly way. We need to think about these tunnels, they've been done in places like Stockholm, they've been done in Brussels, they've been done in Boston.
"I think this could be the way forward and it's very important we get it on the map."
