45 Arrests As Police Target Bike Thefts In London

More than 400 officers from all 32 London boroughs took part in the day of action yesterday.
Police carried out raids on suspected bike thieves and recovered 14 suspected stolen bicycles and parts.They carried out spot checks at local pawn shops, and patrolled cycle theft hotspots in the city.
In Hillingdon, police arrested an 18-year-old on suspicion of handling stolen goods when they saw him riding a bike and wheeling a second along the road.
However, latest crime figures over the past year show cycle theft has fallen in London by 9%.
Chief Superintendent Sultan Taylor, Safer Transport Command, said : "Bike theft has a huge impact on Londoners, costing over £10m per year and yesterday's activity has seen some excellent results helping to crackdown on cycle theft even further."
