A Masterclass in Masturbation... For Him

We often talk on the programme about sex with your partner - but we also get lots of questions about what Woody Allen once called ‘sex with someone you love’. So this week and next week, my sex tip is a comprehensive guide how each of you can do perfect self-pleasuring. Let’s start with him…

Assume the  position. We often think of ‘positions’ as meaning intercourse, but the position you masturbate in matters too. Do you get most pleasure lying flat, standing up, sitting cross legged or in a chair? Some men need back support in order to get the blood flowing, others find it important to spread their legs, yet others need to lie face down and press into the bed or a pillow. No right or wrong – just experiment.

; Get a grip. Experiment with your hold too – your whole hand around your penis, is the classic, but you could try finger and thumb only around just your tip. If you’re not circumcised, it may be important to hold your foreskin closed  - if you are circumcised, it may work best to use the palm of one hand over the head of your penis while your other hand does the up-and-down work.

: Play with… the speed. Men in particular often like a no-worries quickie – if so, then it’s usually best to go for action that’s as fast as you can make. But if slow everything down (particularly if that’s not your usual style) you can get very different. Try varying speeds and rhythms too, moving very quickly for  perhaps thirty seconds, then adding a few slow strokes to hold yourself back.

Add in some lube. Lube – particularly lube with extra ‘tingle’ can add a whole new dimension to your play. Slather your whole organ in it, or if you’ve a foreskin, pop some on your glans then hold your foreskin closed and move it around, over your glans.

Don’t forget your balls… Given that you’ve two hands, you can use one hand on your organ and the other to rub, stroke, lightly tap or scratch your balls.  Some men can climax from ball action alone – try using different movements on different testicles, or adding that aforementioned lube.

And don’t forget other parts of your anatomy. Before – or while – you home in on your penis, try stroking yourself all over, with massage oil perhaps. Or try lubing your nipples then rubbing or pinching one or both. Or slide one finger or a butt plug into your anus – though don’t touch your penis after that without washing, or you could cause infection.

; Add in a sex toy. Vibrators aren’t just for the girls. Use one on your balls or the tip of your cock, either as foreplay or to tip yourself over the edge once you’ve worked yourself up by hand.

Last but not least, stop counting! Many men ask us whether they’re masturbating too much but usually there’s no need to worry.. If it’s interfering with your work, your family life or your love life then you may need to see a sex therapist – but otherwise, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!
