Are protests over the Pope's visit justified?

The Reverend Iain Paisley has added his voice to the protests against the visit of The Pope next week.
Paisley has urged the government to cancel the state welcome in protest over him turning a blind eye to the child abuse scandal in the Roman Catholic church. Others are also upset at the potential bill of £100m for security for the visit.
But are the protests fair?
