Bag Thieves Arrested After Working At Police Christmas Party
Friday 23rd December 2011
Two thieves were in for a surprise when they attempted to steal bags at a pub where the police Christmas party was taking place.
The officers spotted the two men acting suspiciously at a pub on Battersea rise where they were celebrating on Wednesday.
Having recently been investigating a spate of bag thefts in the area, the off-duty officers thought the men matched descriptions of the suspects and detained the men.
Chief Inspector Charlotte Taylor said: "I am delighted that my officers acted in this positive way, particularly at this time of year when this type of crime causes considerable distress to victims.
"Their actions show police officers are never off duty and always willing to intervene when they suspect crimes are being committed."
Two men, aged 19, have been arrested on suspicion of going equipped to steal and have been bailed to return on 27 January 2012.
