Bangers And Mash Sold For £75 In London Restaurant

A French restaurant in London is understood to be charging £75 for a plate of sausage and mash.

It's an English food staple and most people wouldn't begrudge spending a tenner on a good plate of sausages and mash. Most would draw the line at spending £75 however. That's exactly what a plateful will cost you Michelin-starred restaurant L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Covent Garden.

They have have come up with a gourmet version of the dish consisting of ‘deconstructed’ sausages made from pigs fed on acorns, herbs and mushrooms.

The sausages are braised in vintage Bordeaux and served with puréed désirée potatoes and butter mixed with black truffle.

The restaurant sells the dish under the rather more sophisticated name 'Ivre de généreux Bordeaux, mousseline de pomme de terre avec truffe.'

Head Chef of the restaurant Olivier Limousin says the secret to the dish's success is very simple: "You can only make our signature of mouselline de pommes de terre with the right potato variety."

The dish was designed for Potato Week, which aims to boost potato consumption by the Potato Council.
