Baroness Claims Pakistanis and Bangladeshis Have More Children for More Benefits

Wednesday 14th September 2011

Lady Flather, a former Tory peer who now sits as a crossbencher, has claimed that some Asian families in Britain are having too many children in order to claim extra welfare payments.

The Baroness - who is Britain's first female Asian peer - made the comments during a speech as welfare reforms were debated in the House of Lords.

If the reforms are approved they could see benefits capped at £26,000 - the average income for a working househild.

Nick asked whether or not Lady Flather comments are right.

He spoke to Lord Nazir Ahmed - a Labour life peer from Pakistan originally from Pakistan - and Dr Rami Ranger - Chairman of the british Sikh association.
