'Boris Already Part-Time Mayor', says Tottenham MP
Wednesday 6th August 2014
Labour MP for Tottenham, David Lammy had harsh words for Boris Johnson this morning as news broke of the London Mayor’s intent to stand as an MP in the 2015 election.
Speaking to LBC’s James O’Brien, Lammy commended the Mayor’s status as an ambassador for London but spoke candidly and critically on the mayor’s controversial decision to remain mayor while seeking a parliamentary seat.
“Boris has spent a lot of time managing upwards and outwards in the media towards the top job.”
This echoes an earlier tweet sent by Lammy in which he criticised Johnson, labelling him a “part time mayor.”
Lammy confirmed late last year that he was seriously considering running in London’s 2016 mayoral election and told James that he was not particularly concerned over whether or not he would be going head to head against the popular mayor.
“My simple point on Boris Johnson is there are a lot of Londoners listening who think: this is a guy which reminds them of the tale the emperor has no clothes. The jokey, jovial front is tiring for a considerable amount of Londoners.”
