Boris: Israel Action Is 'Disproportionate, Ugly & Tragic'
Tuesday 5th August 2014
Boris Johnson has labelled Israel's military action in Gaza as disproportionate, ugly and tragic.
The Mayor of London was live on LBC when he heard that Foreign Office Minister Sayeeda Warsi had resigned over the government's position over Gaza.
Asked about Israel's actions in Gaza, Mr Johnson said: "I think it is disproportionate, I think it is ugly, I think it is tragic and I don't think it will do Israel any good in the long run.
"In having that opinion, I'm merely echoing what everyone else is saying at the moment.
"I think there is no point in us getting into a bidding war on who can issue the most frenzied denunciations of what is going on.
"It is obviously horrifying and I want it to stop and pray it stops."
Speaking to Nick Ferrari on LBC, he said he was "very sad' over Baroness Warsi's decision to quit.
He added: "I would say it's very sad when any minister resigns and I've got a great respect for Sayeeda. I think she's done a great job for us and I hope she'll be back as soon as possible."
