Uxbridge Says Boris Must Rethink Heathrow Plan
Thursday 7th August 2014
Boris Johnson may have to re-think his views on London's airports if he wants to be an MP in Uxbridge.
The constituency is just north of Heathrow and thousands living there rely on the airport for work.
The Mayor of London wants to see a hub airport built in the Thames Estuary and Heathrow turned into a tech city.
Mike Appleton from the Back Heathrow campaign has told LBC this won't go down well with voters. He told LBC: "The people of west London are quite worried about Boris's plans to shut down a major local employer and a major centre of business.
"Thousands of people in the area rely on Heathrow Airport. But not just those people who work there directly, but the businesses who rely on the airport, like logistics companies and taxi firms, who are very concerned by his plans."
Boris Johnson announced his plans to return to Westminster yesterday.
There are suggestions this morning if successful he could be made Business Secretary if David Cameron's re-elected at the General Election.
