Boy, 11, Is London's Youngest Gun Crime Suspect
An 11-year-old boy is Scotland Yard's youngest gun crime suspect.
According to records published by the Met Police after a freedom of information request, the schoolboy remains on bail after being questioned over a firearm last year.
The 11-year-old’s arrest for gun possession was one of more than 1,000 arrests of young people found with weapons in 2010.
1,180 under-16s were arrested for possession of an offensive weapon last year, an increase of more than 100 on the previous year’s figure.
Conservative MP Philip Davies told The Sun: "Everyone wants to give young people a second chance. But we are talking about serious offences.
"It is important they know that such behaviour will not be tolerated."
The 11-year-old was not the only child of his age to be detained for a serious offence. A girl of the same age was the youngest person arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
