Can you pick up radio in space?

Question

satellite-dish.jpgMy 11-year-old daughter asked: radio signals go up into space, so do radio signals degrade, or would they continue?
Lee, Dartford

Answer

** Definitive **
Name: Ken, Herne Hill
Qualification: Former sound engineer
Answer: The signal is related to the amount of watts you pump the signal out. So you could broadcast to space if you had enough power in your transmitter. But the aliens would need a responder to translate the radio wave into sound.
