Terrifying Moment Baby Rolls On To Tube Tracks
Monday 11th August 2014
Pictures have been released of the moment a mother and her baby narrowly avoided disaster after the buggy rolled onto the tracks at Goodge St Station.
CCTV images released by British Transport Police (BTP) show how the incident unfolded on Wednesday, 23rd July, just before 7:30pm.
It started when a man left a pushchair at the bottom of the stairs whilst going to help other family members.
As the train pulled out of the station a gust of wind caught the buggy, which started to roll towards the tracks.
Fortunately, the child’s mother was alert to what was happening and chased after the buggy, although she could not stop it rolling over the edge and onto the tracks.
After jumping onto the live tracks she was thankfully able to rescue the baby and the buggy, moments before another train pulled in to the station.
British Transport Police now want to speak to the couple involved.
Chief Inspector Mark Lawrie said: “This was a frightening incident, not just for the scale of the danger the child was exposed to, but also because the woman then put her own life on the line by going onto the tracks. We urgently need to identify the people involved to ensure the child wasn’t injured as a result of the fall onto the tracks.”
BTP have released a close up image of the couple they want to speak to.
