Clegg Blasts 'Potty' MPs Over Payrise Demands
Thursday 17th January 2013
Nick Clegg told LBC 97.3 that MPs asking for a 32% payrise were "living on another planet".
In his second Call Clegg phone-in, the Deputy Prime Minister told Nick Ferrari that MPs were "potty" to think they should get a big payrise, while other people were struggling to get by.
Mr Clegg told LBC 97.3: "It just beggars belief that apparently some MPs have anonymously said they think they deserve a 30% or 32% pay increase.
Theyíre living on a different planet for those MPs who think that you can say to teachers and nurses and doctors youíre only going to get 1% increase in your pay for the next several years but we deserve a third increase.
"I think itís completelyÖ I think itís potty.
"It's not going to happen, itís certainly not going to happen if I've got anything to do with it but I donít actually have anything to do with it because the pay of MPs is set now independently by this body called IPSA which was set up in the wake of the MPs expenses scandals."
