Coffee Shop Crime Reporting: Tottenham MP Speaks OutMonday 10th December 2012
The Labour MP for Tottenham is concerned that plans to ask people to report crimes at churches and coffee shops could jeopardise the privacy of victims.
Met police are understood to be considering using space at Tottenham Hotspur football club to make up for the closure of police station front counters due to cuts.
Critics say the force is showing a blatant disregard for the privacy of victims and that victims of sensitive crimes like rape would be reluctant to come forward to such public locations.
David Lammy says parts of London will feel abandoned by the police
"The range at things that people are going to report means that they're often not going to want to share that with someone who's quietly having a latte or quietly in prayer or, indeed, shopping."
