Coraline
Another animated treat from Henry Selick - the man who directed the brilliant 'Nightmare Before Christmas'.
Once again, he creates a creepy, quirky dream-world, using stunning stop-motion animation (this time with CGI enhancements), backed by a haunting music score.
This is a dark, sinister story and probably unsuitable for young children. I guarantee you will never look at buttons the same way after watching this film!
The cast is excellent: particularly Dakota Fanning in the title role and Keith David as The Cat. A number of British stars can be heard in supporting roles, including Ian McShane and French & Saunders.
At the cinema, the film was presented in digital 3D and looked sublime. The 3D version on the DVD and Blu-ray is not of the same standard (it requires the old-fashioned green and red glasses!) and should be considered a novelty 'extra'. But the 2D transfer is beautiful, particularly in High Definition.
