Could Phone Boxes Become Solar-Powered Mobile Chargers?
Tuesday 13th May 2014
London's phone boxes could be turned into solar-powered mobile phone chargers.
Founded by Kirsty Kenney and Harold Craston, two students at the London School of Economics, SolarBox aims to provide free points for Londoners to charge their phones.
The pair insist they want to maintain the tradition of the iconic phoneboxes.
They said: "Our iconic telephone boxes remain symbols of our cultural heritage, but functionally they are in decline.
"solarBOX plans to reverse this trend by installing solar powered charge points in kiosks throughout Central London."
Users will have to remain in the phone boxes for around 10 minutes to charge their phones, so they will be shown a series of short films and tailored adverts as part of the experience.
