Darren Rathband: Police Let My Brother Down
Sunday 7th April 2012
The brother of the late David Rathband told LBC 97.3 that the police let his brother down in the months before his death.
In an exclusive interview with Iain Dale, PC Rathband's twin brother said Northumberland Police had walked away from a settlement.
He said: "That's what I've heard and there was an insurance issue. The claim may have been a substantial claim if they had been negligent."
When Iain asked if he thought the police had been negligent, he replied: "Yes I do."
Mr Rathband also demanded answers from the Prime Minister on how they were making sure that what happened to David never happens again.
He added: "I know David Cameron said how brave he was and we need to know the answers. I challenge Mr Cameron to find the answers - what went wrong? Lets make sure it doesnt happen to someone else.
"And if it does, let's give them the support they need, so they dont have to fight for counselling. It's very easy to record what you've done for somebody. It's even easier to record what you haven't done."
