David Mellor Apologises Over Taxi Outburst
Saturday 29th November 2014
David Mellor has apologised for abusing a taxi driver during a disagreement over the quickest route home.
The LBC presenter, a former Home Office minister, was on the front pages of the newspapers this week after an outburst was recorded by the black cab driver.
In his first LBC show since the incident, Mr Mellor took the first opportunity to say sorry to the driver and to say he has a great respect for and rapport with London's cabbies.
"What a week - but no worse than I deserved.
"I can't think what possessed me to lose it with that cabbie the way I did. OK, I had a case but I threw it away by the way I spoke and I'm really, really sorry about that."
And he apologised to the show's listeners too "for trying your patience and risking my own credibility with you by speaking the way I did.
"It's water for me at the next celebratory lunch, I've definitely made that decision."
"To show my appreciation for all the decent London cabbies that I've been a passenger of for 40 years, I'm going to make a substantial donation to their Christmas charity appeal for underprivileged kids."
