With a new US Presedent on the road to the White House, we celebrate some great American food dished up this side of the pond. Here are our top places to have 'dinner in a diner'.
The Diner in Old street is a firm favourite with many Londoners. It's their little plastic baskets full of crispy fries and killer burgers that have us hooked. All the food is cooked in it's open kitchen, which serves up succulent meaty feasts a little on the pricey side but worth it's weight in gold. The booths that you can sit in get you feeling like you've stepped back into the sixties.
What is a celebration without an array of killer cocktails?
$ Grills and Martinis in Exmouth Market has a great list of drinks to go with their burgers made of steak meat and their mouth watering sauces. If the idea of a traditional diner doesn't float your boat then this classy alternative will most definitely prove popular. In fact, it’s popularity is it’s only downfall with tables being booked up fast in the evenings.
If you know an American and they haven't taken you to this restaurant in London yet, then don't consider yourself their friend. This hidden secret in the heart of Soho is a welcome abode for all the pork fans out there. Fresh meat cooked quick on their hot barbeque and served in a variety of styles from ribs to rumps. Bodeans BBQ on Poland Street in Soho, is a heavenly place, if only for their homemade barbeque and blue cheese sauces. Traditional American desserts can tempt you into overeating here, but if you must do it, we would recommend the Pecan Pie.
Now we couldn't think of a better name for a diner than Big Easy, down the road from Chelsea it boasts a family atmosphere and an extensive menu. Serving more than just burgers and fries, this restaurant has a Lobster festival, serves Shrimp and prime Kobe steak. All freshly cooked and fairly priced with ever changing special offers, you can't argue about the value for money. We wouldn't recommend this place for a quite night out, or a romantic date as its loud music and live bands create more of a party atmosphere.
It is easy to pick up a burger from a whole host of larger chain restaurants around town, but when it come to service, meat quality and overall standards of dining, these have to be the top diners.
