Do babies dream in the womb?

Question

My wife is 6 months pregnant and I was wondering: can the baby dream in the womb? And if it does, what does it dream about?
Martin, Fulham

Answer

** Definitive **
Name: Katie, Hampton
Qualification: Psychology student
Answer: Yes, they do dream. They have longer periods of REM sleep – the type of sleep associated with dreaming. As they spend so much time in REM, it explains why they sleep for about 18 hours a day, both in the womb and as a newborn.
