Answer: It can. It’s a sealed unit and there is no air flow through the water. Water needs to be aerated to stop it from going stagnant. In a sealed bottle over months, you can expect water to change in composition a little. Over time, water can also get dioxins from the plastic bottles as well, which can cause cancer.
