Elderly Woman Dies In House Fire In Chessington

Monday 28th July 2014

An elderly woman has died following a house fire in South London.

Emergency crews were called to the property on Moor Lane in Chessington at around 5:30 yesterday afternoon. 35 firefighters attended the scene.

The London Fire Brigade said: "The fire badly damaged the semi-detached property, and sadly, when they arrived, breathing apparatus crews found the body of an elderly woman on the ground floor.

"A man was rescued from the house by a neighbour before the Brigade arrived and he was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service suffering from burns. Part of the house next door was also slightly damaged by the fire.

"The cause of the fire is under investigation."

Police are investigating the cause of the fire and a man rescued from the house is being treated in hospital.
