Ex-Met Head: Stephen Lawrence's Legacy Must Continue
Monday 20th FebruaryFormer Met Police Commissioner Lord Ian Blair says the parents of Stephen Lawrence have changed the face of policing in the UK.
He is delivering the inaugural Stephen Lawrence Criminal Justice Lecture today where he will say the force "must never forget" its initial investigation into the teenager's murder was flawed and that we "must stand together and not let the memory fade."Gary Dobson and David Norris were convicted in January of murdering 18-year-old Stephen in Eltham in 1993.
Lord Blair has told LBC 97.3's Nick Ferrari Stephen's parents deserve great praise.
"This event changed the Met, changed Britain. The way that Doreen and Neville Lawrence drove tirelessly at the establishment to make change - we should celebrate that."
He believes that the legacy of Stephen must be driven on to create a more equal Britain.
