Extra Help Offered to Families of Disabled Children in Islington

Families in Islington with disabled children are being offered the chance to have free short breaks.

The scheme gives children the chance to try out new experiences and gives parents and carers a break.

Islington's short breaks service offers more options for children with the most complex needs

Islington resident Paula Guzman has made use of a variety of short breaks with her 15 year-old daughter Chantal,"It's a really good service and both Chantal and I can have a night off from each other when she has an overnight stay. It gives me the chance to spend some special time just with my son. It is difficult at first to let go, but once you see what's on offer, you feel confident that they're in really good hands."

A range of breaks are available, from a carer coming to sit with a child for a couple of hours in their home, to organising activities for the child to take part in and overnight stays away.
