Farage: Eight More MPs Thinking Of Joining UKIP
Friday 29th August 2014
Nigel Farage told LBC that other MPs are considering joining Ukip following the defection of Conservative MP Douglas Carswell.
The MP has joined Ukip and resigned from Parliament, triggering a by-election in Clacton.
It has been reported eight more Conservative MP's have held talks with UKIP and are considering defecting.
When LBC's Political Correspondent Theo Usherwood asked him if more would follow, Mr Farage said: "Let's see. Here's one in the bag and we're delighted. But don't think there aren't others who are considering their options."
The Ukip leader could not hide his delight at his new addition, adding: "For him, it's a hell of a big decision to make.
"He's given up a very safe Conservative seat to join Ukip, which currently has no seats in Westminster and he's putting it up for by-election.
"He's a very brave guy.
"It's very important, because it shows that somebody who is currently sitting in the House of Commons thinks we're a credible party to joinand test that with the electorate.
"I think Ukip members will be very proud about what Douglas Carswell has done.
"And I tell you something else - there will be people out there across the left and right, across the Eurosceptic and Europhile spectrum of British politics, who will say this guy has done something very unusual, very courageous and very brave."
