Former Met Officer Denies Indecently Assaulting Boy

Friday 30th May 2014

A former Met Police officer has appeared in court accused of indecently assaulting a boy under 16.

Gurpal Virdi Gurpal Virdi's lawyer says he completely denies the allegations, which date back to the 1980s and also include misconduct in public office.

The 55 year old from Hounslow appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

He will appear next at Southwark Crown Court on June 12 and has been granted unconditional bail.

Scotland Yard said the summons followed an investigation by the Directorate of Professional Standards into an allegation of a historic indecent assault of a male prisoner.

Matt Foot, defending, said: "Mr Virdi completely denies the allegations, and looks forward to receiving the full evidence, and having his full day in court."

During his career with the Metropolitan Police, Virdi was involved in a series of disputes about the way he was allegedly treated by the force.
