Free Travel For Over-60s, Promises Boris
Wednesday 22nd February 2012
Boris Johnson has promised to help fund free travel for Londoners over 60 as he squared up to Ken Livingstone and Brian Paddick in the first Mayoral hustings of the battle for City Hall.
The age at which people qualify for the Freedom pass has risen in line with the state pension age for women, but the Mayor says no one over 60 should now miss out on free travel.
He squared up with Livingstone and Paddick at an AGE UK London event on Tuesday, which also saw the Labour candidate promise to help cut Londoners' energy bills by one hundred an fifty pounds a year.
Mr Livingstone also laid down a direct challenge to the current Mayor over his newspaper column. He said: “If I’m elected Mayor, I pledge to be a full-time Mayor, I will have no other jobs or paid work for the entire four years of my mayoralty.
“I’ve signed this pledge – and I’ve left a space for you to sign Boris!”
