Gatwick Owners Rule Out Second Runway
Conservationists in West Sussex have welcomed a decision by the new owners of Gatwick airport to rule out a second runway for the foreseeable future.
The UK's second largest airport was sold to Global Infrastructure Partners last year and it's chairman Sir David Rowlands has given his reasurance over future plans.
He said a second runway was neither Government policy nor that of the airport and said the outcome of any planning application would be uncertain.
Under a local agreement, there is an understanding that such expansion would not be permitted until 2019.
