Halloween: What We Can Learn From The Ancients
No, you may not think of October 31st as a particular sexy day. But Hallow’een – or Samhain as it was known in ancient times – is a pagan festival; and pagan traditions and ritual have a lot to teach us about sex! So to turn your Hallow’een into a lustfest, read on…- The ancients believed the Eros, the god of passion, was a very powerful deity – and that we should all honour him by making love regularly. Modern science agrees – sex not only creates a bond between lovers, but also keeps us healthy - some studies suggest that the more we have sex the longer we live! So why not celebrate this Hallow’een with lots and lots of sex?
- Many pagan rituals were performed naked. Follow suit this Hallow’een by spending the whole evening completely naked – eating, drinking, listening to.
- As in ancient times, create your own ritual as a lead up to sex. Set the scene with dozens of (safely placed) lighted candles, play rhythmic music with a heavy, serve food that reflects the season – such as apples (a symbolic food often eaten at the Samhain festival).
- October 31st is the end of the pagan old year, a day when you look back at the past. So you might want to start your ritual by remembering the time you met, the first time you made love, or the best sex you ever had.
- Pagans believe sex is utterly natural – and that we’d all be happier if we stopped guilt-tripping ourselves for enjoying sex. So this Hallow’een, why not put aside your inhibitions and try some new things that you’ve never dared try before?
- The masks and costumes that children (and fancy dress party attendees) often wear for modern Hallow’een are a reflection of the masks that ancient peoples often wore for their rituals. You could add extra spice in the bedroom department by wearing a mask or a blindfold.
- At the end of the Samhain ritual, the High Priest and High Priestess would perform the Great Rite – in other words, they’d have ritual intercourse. Create your own Great Rite by making love slowly and lovingly, with long, melting orgasms.
- Finally, as Samhain is a day for future plans and predictions, spend time after lovemaking looking forward to the year ahead. Better still, resolve that it’s going to be your best year ever when it comes to sex – the year where you experiment, explore, read those sex manuals, buy those sex toys and swing from those chandeliers!
