Answer: The first example of translation is during the ancient Egyptian times. There were three main languages used and when trade routes started, they needed to be able to communicate with each other. So the Rosetta Stone was sculpted, which had the same three passages written in three languages below each other. Two of these languages became extinct - one was hieroglyphics and when they found out how these worked, they were able to translate the other languages based on that.
