How do they make smokeless coal?
Question
How do they take the smoke out of smokeless coal?John, Enfield
Answer
** Definitive **Name: Frank, Streatham Vale
Qualification: Worked in a coal by-product factory
Answer: The coal is transported into great big ovens and is heated at a super-high temperature and after a certain amount of time, it is pushed out of the oven and cooled in huge water coolers. This helps separate the different elements of the coal, and essentially the smoke part is removed. So you’re left with a material with high combustibility, but low smoke.
