How to get around on London Marathon day

Over a quarter of a million people are expected to line the streets to cheer on the 35,000 runners in the London Marathon.

marathon-lastyear.jpgRoads will be shut across London for the 26.2mile course and, with an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley as well as Arsenal v Liverpool at the Emirates, the capital is expected to be extremely busy on Sunday.

So before you go out, make sure you read out guide to how to get about London.

Best Places To Watch The Marathon

These DLR stations make ideal vantage points close to the marathon route:
Crossharbour, South Quay, Heron Quays, Canary Wharf, Westferry, Limehouse

For safety reasons, please do not use the station stairs and platforms as viewing points and follow the directions of station staff.

On the London Overground, Surrey Quays, Canada Water, Shadwell and Whitechapel are all close to the route.

On the Jubilee line, these stations are also really close to the race route:

There are a couple of planned engineering works on Sunday:
There will be no Central Line between Marble Arch and Ealing Broadway.
There will be no service on the Waterloo & City Line.

Many of the best vantage points for the marathon are on the Dockland's Light Railway and the DLR will have extra services running throughout Sunday, with 2.5 minutes.

Tower Hill and Westminster stations also get extremely busy and may close at times to ease congestion.

River Services

River buses will be running from Greenwich to Canary Wharf, Tower Millennium, London Bridge or Embankment Piers.
