If you bang eggs together, why does only one break?

egg.jpgQuestion

If you are cooking and you need to crack an egg, if you crack two eggs together, why does only one egg crack?
Ian, Cheshunt

Answer

** Definitive **
Name: Ross, Orpington
Qualification: I’m a chef and just tried it out!
Answer: It’s because when you bring your hands together, the hands are slightly off-centre. Both eggs will have the same structural integrity, but as you are not hitting them in exactly the same place, the egg which is hit in the weaker part will break.
