James Hartigan's Favourite Films
It's taken some time, but finally James Hartigan has managed to put together his list of his 10 favourite films.
"After eight hours of consideration (no exaggeration!), I've compiled the following list.
"A few points of order: this is a personal list of MY favourite films, not a rundown of what I consider to be the "10 best motion pictures ever made"; this list is fluid and subject to constant change (tomorrow, I might pick 'Paths of Glory' instead of 'Dr Strangelove', or 'Singin' in the Rain' instead of 'Manhattan'); and I know I'm cheating by counting 'The Godfather' and the 'The Godfather Part II' as one film!
"Anyway, with those caveats out of the way, here's James Hartigan's All Time Top Ten (in alphabetical order)...
- Casablanca (Michael Curtiz, 1942)
- Dr Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (Stanley Kubrick, 1963)
- The Godfather & The Godfather Part II (Francis Ford Coppola, 1972/74)
- Manhattan (Woody Allen, 1979)
- Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters (Paul Schrader, 1985)
- Once Upon a Time in America (Sergio Leone, 1984)
- Once Upon a Time in the West (Sergio Leone, 1968)
- One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (Milos Foreman, 1975)
- La Regle du Jeu (Jean Renoir, 1939)
- 2001: A Space Odyssey (Stanley Kubrick, 1968)"
