Virginia Eastman from Heidrick & Struggles joined me to discuss the news. She does not think Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling have been doing a bad job managing the economy. Although she does question the logic of taxing bankers and their bonuses. Of course public perception is that bankers are entirely responsible for the mess. But that could be a brilliant job of spin from our politicians. I cannot believe that people are happy to see our most profitable industry hounded off our shores. Since that is what will happen if the pursuit continues… that’s just my opinion though and of course it will be interesting to see what Alistair Darling will do in his Pre-Budget Report. Will you have to pay higher tax? Will he have to cut public spending? And will this be an election winner or a real statement to put the economy back on track? Interestingly when asked who is best to manage the economy, by a landslide you thought it was Vince Cable. Why don’t the opinion polls reflect this then?
For the second hour, Noel De Keyser, Director of Savills joined me to give you some advice for buying property overseas. This is an area where you have to be very careful if you are going to venture abroad. Plenty of options though. Proceed with caution and don’t forget to get good local advice and to do your homework by researching not only on the net but also in person. www.savills.com for more information
