With news that a court has said that “super-injunctions” are not acceptable, it seems that the public can and should know about the lives of celebrities. Whilst I would not wish to see illegal intrusions of privacy, I do think that if you put yourself out there and should you digress of the straight and narrow, you should be prepared for the consequences. I don’t think that covering up or preventing the truth from getting out (particularly if you are earning millions) is acceptable.
Talking of millions. The gap between the rich and poor has never been greater. Yet I think we have allowed ourselves to be convinced that taxing the rich is the way to reduce the gap. Clearly it isn’t. Politicians from all sides have failed to tackle the problem. Education, surely is the key to unlock mobility and we should be more concerned about eradicating poverty than simply bleating about the rich?
James Hartigan joined me to discuss the film releases of the week. www.lbc.co.uk/filmclub for more information.
And then onto the big story of the week. Tony Blair finally gave evidence to the Iraq Inquiry. An incredible performance. But I was not convinced. Mr Blair thinks the world is a safer place as a result of his actions. You don’t think it is and nor, quite frankly, do I. Will we learn anything new? Unlikely. And despite all the information we received, I think we will happily consign Mr Blair to history. And his views.
Talking of history some new Mrs T papers are available www.margaretthatcher.org including a two week crash diet. I’m off to go and buy some eggs!
