What a hornet’s nest! Prince Charles has been criticized in a court case for voicing his opinion over the redevelopment at Chelsea Barracks. Many of you support his actions. Yet we live in a democracy and for an unelected individual to try to influence what is in essence a commercial decision is in my opinion not acceptable. As a resident in the area, I am not a big fan of the design that was put forward. Similarly, I don’t think it’s really up to me to decide what should be put there instead. Architecture is a matter of taste. Some people like modern architecture. Some don’t. In its place I think there is relevance yet NIMBYism has really taken hold in this country. If the process doesn’t work then it needs fixing – but I don’t think it’s right for members of the Royal Family to get involved unless it is relevant and pertinent to them. The development around St Paul’s Cathedral was held up for years as a result of Prince Charles’ intervention. Whilst his opinion is valid, it should be no more valid than anyone else’s.
David Cameron seems to be gearing up for a withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, sooner the better I say. It seems clear that the action was another war we didn’t need or want or indeed could afford. Now he and President Obama need to find a form of words so we don’t lose face!
I also discussed competitive sports with you – perhaps the issue is less about sports at school and more about facilities. Either way if we want to be on the sporting world stage, we are going to have to change our approach.
And the iPhone 4g… if the signal reduces? Hold it differently or get a case for it then you won’t have a problem!
I’m back tomorrow afternoon from 4
