We might be fatter, drinking more and doing less exercise. Yet we are living longer. So why do we have this desire to have schools and the NHS sticking their noses in to diet. Photographs of lunchboxes and letters to children who are just outside of the recommended weights for children. It’s intervention that is unwelcome. I’m in a firing mood this morning. Let’s save money and fire the lot of these people. We don’t need or want the advice. Health education is important but the rafts of people involved in this micromanagement of people’s lives are utterly futile and invasive.
Oh good. The coalition says we will have a referendum on AV – the alternative voting process. What a waste of time. It won’t increase or democratise our nation in any way. It strikes me that the politicians think it will and that it’s an interesting debate. It really isn’t. I just want them to get on with what they do and to clean out their ears to listen to what you want and then go and do it! Fact is if we had a real democracy we would not vote for many of the things they prescribe for us!
And the 1970’s weren’t all that bad. Apparently. Slime was the thing I liked from that particular decade but the more I think about it – the computer games of the time such as Space Invaders, The Atari console and the sweets were all better. Yum! Smarties of bright colours with crispy shells!
I also talked to you about why we let religion rule over equality. I think it’s because we are frightened of having a proper conversation with organised religions. We have allowed prejudice to occur under the banner of religion and if we were a truly advanced society we would put an end to it.
I’m back tomorrow afternoon from 4pm
