It’s about time that savers were rewarded. Whilst I have many issues with the way in which the banks and bankers have been treated by the media… on this particular issue the people least to blame for the crunch are being punished the most. Until we encourage saving and provide real returns for money, we are going to have a systemic problem within our economy. The tax system needs to recognize the importance of money and savers and people need to have a greater level of financial education to ensure we don’t store up a pensions time bomb for the future. As this government fights one fire and the next… they had better start to think about and protect the very people who will help get us out of this mess. We looked at the performance of the government. In today’s Mail there was a classic example of a skewing data. 31% of people polled are unhappy with the coalition government. That apparently means the honeymoon is over and they are not doing that well. Yet 69% of the population are either in favour or indifferent to them. Actually I think they are doing rather well and despite the best efforts of some of the media, I think we might be surprised by how long the coalition lasts and indeed what its legacy will be. In other news you can buy an engagement ring for £15 from Tesco. I’m not sure what message that would send to a potential partner for life… that you are cheap? Or thrifty… or just skint?! Oh and for those who wondered why I was having a giggle at 7.15am this morning… the cleaner came into the studio. She was making such a noise banging the bins, shuffling about generally making a commotion! My jingle was playing out and she was still in there, banging the bin lid back on and crashing around the studio… literally as the red light came on… so she zipped out of the studio. This is the same cleaner who came in during my show a few weeks ago, oblivious to a live radio show being broadcast!! Anyway. I am back tomorrow from 4pm for your Sunday Afternoon Show. Cheerio.
Should we give savers a break?
