The coalition is 100 days old. I spoke to Labour leadership candidate Ed Miliband. He would not work with Nick Clegg in a coalition as he does not wish to compromise on principles. Yet is he a man in denial about the level of overspending in government? I also spoke to John Redwood who quashed any thoughts of allowing the Lib Dems some form of veto in government.
We also looked at the level of sickness in the Police. On average it’s 7 days a year. I think it seems rather high and given that other areas in the public sector run at more days off a year – I think we have just begun to scratch the surface on the savings that need to be made to ensure that we get better value from our public sector employees.
And James Caan, best known to you as one of the TV Dragons is off to Pakistan tomorrow. He wants to highlight just what a serious humanitarian disaster is underway in the country. The land mass with the same size as the UK is under threat, with a population of 20 million affected. He doesn’t think the international community have reacted quickly enough o with enough money and he also thinks we have not allowed the seriousness of the problems to sink in…
