Tesco open longer than the police station

Are the Royal British Legion right to accept Blair's donation?

The police and the government have one vision of what they should be doing. Yet you seem to have a better idea. You want a police “force” not a service and you want a 24/7 presence. I agree. I don’t like the idea of cutting costs and having services available when you telephone as much of policing is through presence and deterring as it is through catching and solving.

We also had a discussion about the “graduate tax” that Nick Clegg supports. It’s another ridiculous idea from Vince Cable. He doesn’t think these things through. The more people earn the more tax they pay. Do we really need another distinctive to work? Another reason to ask people to emigrate? Another reason to punish those who work hard? To my mind it’s as stupid as it is unfair.

I have to say David Miliband’s “advice” on how to have a party. It makes me laugh that he thinks people would have leadership parties anyway. I mean, how could you be that dull? And how stupid do you have to be to be told that you should vacuum before your guests arrive? It’s just embarrassing. Maybe it’s a manifestation of the type of nannying policies that would come into force if he were ever elected as Prime Minister?

We also discussed the fact that the royal British Legion have distanced themselves a little from Tony Blair’s donation. It’s weak of them to accept the money. It should have been done anonymously if he really cared about the cause and didn’t want to attract publicity. It just shows how important PR is to him and his machine. This donation should not be about him, his book or anything else but about helping those who need assistance. Quite why we have slipped into this appalling mess, I don’t know.

Talking of mess… the article on today’s Times with advice for 16 year olds on careers is awful. Bad advice, poor guidance, pointless article. You gave much better thoughts based on experience.

Anyway. I am back tomorrow from 4pm for The Sunday Afternoon Show.

P.S - There was a lot of fuss about my choice of shirt today. See for yourself…
