With 10 years in power and three elections won at the helm of their parties.. the parallels between Blair and Thatcher are marked. Both presided over periods of massive change and wielded huge influence socially, economically and internationally. Yet the legacy left will affect the nation for many years. It’s interesting to investigate how you have been affected and what you take from their periods in power. As I look at your comments, many of you have strong words against Thatcher but one thing is clear. She did what she said she would do whereas Blair was characterised by perhaps saying the right things but doing the opposite. I wonder how history will look at these two figureheads in politics in a decade’s time. We also looked at who’s on the list of most hated Britons. I think the media got it wrong well they did in this list. To say Simon Cowell is hated is like saying The Beatles weren’t one of the best pop groups of all time. The fact that people love to hate him because of his strong views is all part of the act. However judging by the mood. Cat-in-bin woman is definitely top of the pile for this week!
As for schools. Whichever system we have there will always be screams from parents who cannot get their children into the school they want. I’m just wondering whether the replacement is fair… I think it will just create more issues down the line.
Anyway… I’m off to sample the delights of my local market. Back with you tomorrow from 4pm
