Kingston Nightclub Has Licenced Revoked Over Criminal Record
Monday 21st November 2012
Oceana Nightclub in Kingston has had its licence revoked after a man was stabbed to death there last month.
20 year old Jamie Sanderson died in the early hours of 25 October.
Police say a culture of criminality has built up around Oceana in Kingston, which is why they decided to revoke it's licence.
There have been 15 assaults at Oceana reported to police between August and October.
Kingston Borough Commander, Martin Greenslade, said he was pleased with the decision.
"A culture of criminality has built up around the club, which
has been unable to bring the level of crime down to a comparable level
with other clubs in London. This is despite the ongoing support and
advice from officers. The continuing high volume of crime has formed the
basis of our argument for the revocation.
"This shows that police will take action against licenced venues when associated crime levels are untenably high. I would urge all licence holders to work closely with police and other relevant agencies to ensure all appropriate steps are taken to cut offending."
