The circus is coming to town

Posted by Andrew Pierce on March 29, 2009 at 15:14PM

The G20 summit is in town this week. Will we Londoners have to put up with chaos?

The G20 circus is about to begin but the politicians will talk to each other face to face for only four hours and 35 minutes, so it is £4 million an hour? Is it worth it?

And MPs expenses are back in the firing line with the disclosure that the Home Secretary’s husband has claimed for two X-rated movies on his wife’s expenses…which we pay for. Also, the left wing Labour MP Harry Cohen has claimed £300,000 second home allowance on his home… in his constituency.

A new play opens at the Shaw Theatre next week, Maggie’s End, which revels in the death of the former Prime Minister. I’ve written the foreword for the programme arguing for a State funeral for our first woman PM. Kevin Maguire, from the Daily Mirror, has written a foreword, predictably taking the opposite view.

And Derek Draper, the former Labour spin doctor, came in to talk G20, why we should abolish the monarchy – outrageous!!! – MPs expenses, Thatcher, and to promote his new book Life Support all about psychotherapy. And I never even mentioned that his wife is Kate Garraway but do go to his new labour web site Labourlist.org.
