X-factor style elections

Posted by Andrew Pierce on January 17, 2010 at 14:50PM

Should the private sector be told how much to pay people, what do you want to see from the Chilcot Inquiry, and could we see a phone vote for the Election?

With the bankers about to announce another wave of bonuses – up to £1.8 billion at the nationalised RBS – 100 labour Mps and compass, the left of centre pressure group, want a high pay commission to examine ways to curb excessive salaries in the public and private sectors. But how can it be enforced? And what right does the state have to tell a private employer what they can and can’t pay. And after Alistair Campbell’s finger stabbing tub thumping performance at the Chilcott inquiry into the Iraq war what will we learn – and do you agree with the 23 per cent in the Yougov opinion poll who think Tony Blair should be tried as a war criminal. As David Cameron was an enthusiastic supporter of the war in Afghanistan and Iraq how come he is planning to cut military spending buy 20 per cent over five years if he wins the election yet the overseas aid budget will be protected. Should not our troops come first? Step[hen brook, deputy editor of MediaGuardian, was my guest and he proposed an X-factor style phone-in after the three televised debates between the party leaders in the general election. Good idea? And Obama the musical, turkey or good idea.

I'll be back next week

Andrew
