Why we don't want VAT on food

Will charging VAT on food help the economy, do we need more female MP's and Brigit Grant talks Oscars

It seems that the government is getting desperate in it's attempts to plug up the £170bn deficit it's got us in to - their new bright idea is to charge VAT on our food. I spoke to Richard Dodd from the British Retail Consortium who told me why it's such a bad idea, and what should have been done instead. The supermarkets I imagine would also be against this idea.

I spoke to Ann Widdecombe about whether we need more women in Parliament. It's one thing to have a woman elected to Parliament, but it's another to create all women short lists and the like. Of course, there will be arguments that how can a government be truly representative, when the majority of people aren't represented.

Finally, my friend in the studio was journalist Brigit Grant who discussed amongst other things why MP's travel first class on trains, and the Oscars. If you've travelled by train recently you'll know how it expensive it is - so why are MP's demanding first class travel? They should travel with the rest of us! Brigit also gave us her predictions for the Oscars tonight...tune in to Anthony Davis from 1 for live updates!
