Reforming London

Brian Paddick joins Andrew in the studio to talk about prison reform and why have the government cuts suddenly gone up?
So is Ken Clarke, the Justice Secretary, right when he says prisons aren’t working. Brian Paddick, the former Met Police commander and Lib Dem Mayoral candidate thinks he is on to something – too many people are in for short-term sentences when they get no chance to learn or become rehabilitated. They become brutalised he says and yes he might stand again for Mayor but I think he is far more likely to be a Lib Dem peer in the House of Lords. The spending cuts could be 40 per cent – where should the axe fall. Isn’t it time to cut NHS spending to ensure less pain in other areas. And what laws would you abolish. Here’s my suggestion. Every time the government passes a new law it should abolish 10. Sue Carole reviewed the Sunday papers. Remember the Lockerbie bomber who had three months to live. Well the Sunday Times reports that the is now, 10 months after he was freed, doing very well and could go on for anther 10 years. We were conned. It was a grubby little deal to free the bomber to let BP do an oil deal. And superstitions. Sue Carole has a few. But what about the one where you have to spit in the bath if you share the water. Sue talked about her laser surgery, she looks 10 years younger!
