Boris 'A Frontrunner For Uxbridge Seat'

Posted by LBC Reporter on August 06, 2014 at 14:35PM

The leader of the Conservative Council in Hillingdon tells LBC's Political Editor Theo Usherwood that Boris is a definite front-runner for the Uxbridge seat.

Raymond Puddifoot

Uxbridge may not be glamorous as Henley - Boris's constituency last time he was in Parliament. But it is a place where he is amongst friends.

Step forward Councillor Ray Puddifoot - leader of Hillingdon Borough Council - and one of the most influential Tories on the local scene here in the borough.

Ray and Boris go way back - they have fought the third runway at Heathrow and launched the mayor's plan for a new tech city at the airport earlier this year.

Their friendship is crucial for Boris. Ray is central to the selection process. He is expecting around 100 candidates to apply for the job of MP. That will get paper sifted to between three and six candidates during a meeting at CCHQ on September 5.

Those who make the short list will then be able to make their pitch to around 150 association members on September 12. There will be then be a vote, with the result will be announced later that evening.

I spoke to Ray earlier. He told me Boris was a front runner but could face stiff opposition from a local candidate.
